NFC ecosystem
Various sources of NFC related literature refer to the term “ecosystem” as an environment required for NFC services to emerge. In order NFC services to expand contributions from multiple industries and cooperation between different stakeholders is needed, because the evolution of the NFC ecosystem strongly emphasizes the multi-issuer, multi-application, multi-mobile network operator approach as a pre-requisite of success. Additionally there are a multitude of different other actors like handset vendors, secure element vendors, application developers and Trusted Service Managers involved to name few. All of the stakeholders are connected and thus interdependent. In building a successful NFC market seamless cooperation both through standardization bodies and directly between stakeholders is essential.
NFC makes it possible for having a genuine multi-application scheme with more than one application in the same mobile phone. Challenges are set both for the technical implementation as well as for the business framework, but also rewards are high, since multiple applications on mobile mean single access point to multitude of services and therefore substantial value for consumer.
