Akbank and Turkcell in cooperation with MasterCard, Giesecke & Devrient, E-Kart and Venyon have started a mobile payment trial deploying NFC technology

Akbank, Turkey’s most valuable bank in terms of market capitalization, has released a mobile payment trial together with the leading mobile operator Turkcell. As part of the fast moving contactless payment deployment Akbank is testing the MasterCard® PayPass™ payment technology with NFC-enabled mobile phones and SIM cards, both of which support the Single Wire Protocol (SWP) standard. Trial participants can make contactless payments at participating merchant locations.

Venyon cooperates with Akbank and Turkcell in the trial and provides Trusted Service Manager (TSM) services enabling Akbank to provision MasterCard® PayPass™ application into the Turkcell NFC SIM cards of the trial participants. These NFC-enabled SIM cards as well as the payment application are provided by Giesecke & Devrient in cooperation with E-Kart. Trial is scheduled to run three months.
